to stay warm. holding a puppy if you are lucky enough to have one. paul deanno is here now with how low the temperatures will go. paul? >> and those puppies always keep you warm. mid 30s outside already, these are your current temperatures. 34, 32. ronart park is at 22 degrees. we will have cold weather tomorrow morning. widespread freezing temperatures. many of you awry from the hour will have ten hours below freezing. it is not good for the plants outside and get the dog inside as well. santa rosa, napa, some of you had teens. we are looking at temperatures in the upper 20s . san jose, 32, concord, you will be below freezing as well. not just the cold, we have to talk about dropping snow levels because there is a chance of precipitation moving in from the north sitting over the northwest right now. as that moving in, some spots right here in the bay area will be seeing snowfall. find out how low the snow will go coming up. >> all right paul, we will see you then. one man's cold is another man's gold. some area businesses are cashing in. this a-one shop fixes about five pairs of boots

and paul deanno are at mount diablo right now checking more than their tires. got to be cold up there, buddy. >> reporter: it is, yeah, and above 2500 feet a little up this hill in the mount diablo foothills currently it is going to be snowing tonight. two weather headlines. one, we will not have another freeze tonight because of the cloud cover because of the rainfall but headline 2 is that rain is not going to be rain. it's going to be snow, precipitation snowfall above 2500 feet. rain showers moving in. the bulk of the moisture is still offshore. down to the south bay you can see all that rain about to move in. things are moving west to east but check out the snowfall. that white that you see on the diablo range that is mount hamilton already picking up snow and that will continue for the next several hours. for that reason, the snow levels being so low tonight a winter weather advisory is in effect from 1:00 to 10:00 tomorrow morning but the snow has already begun in the east bay hills and santa cruz mountains two to four inches of total snowfall above 2500 feet. get out tomorrow

mike lee, from rand paul, from et cetera, you don't hear them right now. as you said, they're making some noises about how we don't want to trade sequester cuts unless there's a firm guarantee amended mandatory spending cuts. we don't want the extension of unemployment insurance. but these are discussions of actual details of a possible budget plan, not the sort of throwing down the gauntlet kind of, we're going to shut the whole joint down, thing we were hearing. you're not hearing that at all. and i think at least temporarily the biggest names in the tea party -- there's 20 people in the house who signed that letter. frankly, those are the last drags in the bottom of the teacup. they don't mean a whole lot. it's the rand pauls, ted cruzs, mike lees who matter. and they are conspicuous by their silent at this point. >> despite all this talk about big government being evil, the people do miss it. the government once it ceases to be available it begins to look pretty good. anyway, you won't find much agreement in the republican party these days, but there is at least some consensus by

worked on sec for pope john paul's funeral. what could go wrong? but a lot could go wrong. >> yeah, south africa's not entirely a safe place. you have a large somali community there, with connections to shabaab. monitoring these will not be easy. you have the problem of a lot of weapons coming through africa, central african republic, libya and the rest of it. so there is the potential danger to secure all these people. >> the u.s. delegation a small part of the crowd. how much control can the u.s. secret service have, realistically? >> well, it's entirely up to the host government. the south african government has hosted u.s. presidential visits in the past. they do a good job. but, again, it's a very difficult situation. you have 100 heads of state means you have 100 armed security details for those hides of state. some of them aren't friendly. it's a very difficult situation and something that requires a lot of flexibility from the white house and the secret service because they can't do what they would normally do on a major overseas trip like this. >> speaking of flexibility, you wer

of the cold, wind, rain, even snow, kpix 5's chief meteorologist paul deanno is at the foot of mount diablo for a preview of what's to dom. >> reporter: at 2500 feet and above it will be snowing tonight and may be right now. it just started raining here 10 minutes ago. temperature not that bad, 46 degrees. we had clear skies overnight hard freeze once again. then i want to show you some video of the ominous looking clouds that moved in after the lunch hour. rain moves in overnight tonight. here's kpix 5 high-def doppler radar. you see the showers working their way in from the north. we are going to zoom on down to mount diablo. guess what, already at the base of the mountain we are seeing rain showers and at the peak of the mountain we're seeing a rain-snow mixes and a winter weather advisory is in effect saturday tomorrow 1:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. above 25 hutch feet. we likely will see two to four inches of new snowfall. so get out tomorrow afternoon. you will see white on top of mount hamilton, mount st. helena and mount diablo. full forecast to talk about when more rain is going to move in a

budget guru paul ryan and the senate budget committee chairman are leading the talks. class i am hopeful paul ryan and patty murray will come to a budget agreement and that they can pass both isles in the senate. -- gave us an update on where they were and i am hopeful they will be able to work this out. there is clearly no agreement. click the clock is ticking. there is still much work to be done. time is running out on a budget agreement. we understand negotiations are we alsong and understand there is no final deal. qwest paul ryan says he does not know if they can reach a deal by friday but does they are working on it. what they are working on is a narrow word he'll, trying to ease sequestration. in case a budget deal is not reached him a lawmakers came up with a short-term bill to fund the government, which runs out of money yet again on january 15th. matt out joined the surveillance team this morning. ultimately put agreement together that is a short-term agreement. to me, we will not get out of the political mess until 2016. we are in a situation where the president is not trusted
